Skandar / Plump DJs @ SPIN

That pretty much sums up the music I heard at SPIN last night

I got there right at 9:30 and took full advantage of free wells till 10:30. It was at time a competition to jockey for position at the bar, especially around 10:25, but I got full value for my early arrival. Drinks still were a tad on the week side, although one bartender seemed to be a little more generous than the other.

Opener guy was a little all over the place, he dropped some electro/indie dance stuff, then when into more standard downtown house, back to electro,...it was kinda hard to groove to him for an extended period, but his mixing was solid, didn't hear one mistake his entire set.

Skandar got on around 11 and immediately started RAWKING it! His first track immediately put a spark in the crowd, and it was ON from there. I was really digging a lot of the 4/4 techy stuff at the beginning of your set, and then from there it kept bangin for the entire hour and a half. Where we were standing off to the side was right in the firing range of probably 6 subwoofers, and I was feeling every bassline through the floor. Awesome stuff buddy, I asked you to bring it and you delivered.

Plump DJs kept the energy going for sure, they had a kinda crazy 1x4 setup with 4 CDJs and a weird headphone controller that let them split the output to two sets of headphones. They played more 4/4 stuff then I expected, but it was all really good. They were really hyping the crowd, milking every track to it's fullest, definitely a true big headliner set, that had the whole crowd begging for more.

This was definitely one of the better nights I've had at SPIN, lots of friends showed up, great music, and between open bar and being let in for free (not totally sure why but I guess it pays to show up early), I partied for practically nothing money wise and had a great time.

Wish I could have made it. My car is bustered at the moment so I stayed in and crashed early. Glad to hear skandar rocked it. Hopefully this will lead to more awesome gigs!

Yes skandar killed it... I thought it was very strong at beginning and end and lost me a little with the ragga vocal kind of stuff midway through... but solid solid solid... the sound system in there is phenomenal.

Plump Djs brought the shit... really working the booth doing some nifty cue beats with the cdjs and just keeping the energy up. Their first song that opened with a cheese vocal kind of made me a little nervous but quickly a dirty killer beat shook the place. Drinks are still way overpriced at that venue, mine were really strong, but $8 wells kill me. I didn't make the open bar hour so I guess it's my own fault.

Great night! Skandar mordered de dance floor with breakbeats which don't get played out much in San Diego. Recorded Skandar's set through Ableton. Sounds great..opening dj- dropped the cheesiest electronic music I 've heard in a really long time...yeah pretty bad.. Had a great night, great seeing all the sdravers kids out and about..

Thanks for the reviews guys! I was looking forward to this show possibly more than any gig I've ever played and it was awesome. My set was in and out of techy electro & tech-funk breaks, a lot of the peak hour stuff I've been feeling lately along with some classics. I had a great dance floor going most of the time, besides about two tracks in the middle where I took it too hard too soon. Brought the crowd back in with some more melodic breaks before taking it hard again at the end when people were good and ready for it. I did get a recording of the set but since it wasn't the cleanest set I've ever played mixing-wise I need to give it a few good listens before I'll share it.

Plump DJ's kept the energy going with a lot of electro house & breaks, including tons of brand new and unreleased stuff from themlselves and other artists. Track of the night was definitely "Beat Myself Up" which is probably my favorite prime time tune at the moment.

Thanks Tomas and Giant for an awesome opportunity and a great night!

Gotta love the Plumps, Along with Stanton Warriors theyre part a the reason I got so hard into breaks. Not suprised to hear that though, been all over the place lately and kinda lackluster.

Retroid's Angry Robot mix been demolishing my eardrums for the past few weeks.

oops forgot to give snapz! set of the night was Skandar for sure. first guy was atrocious. plumps were cool though too many breaks in the music (as in not enough of a constant flow) but they had fun tracks. glad i can scratch them off of my list.

Sorry, there are a few little technical issues that I can't let slide on a live mix. Might not bother anyone else but it would bother me too much to distribute.
