"On June 4, 2009, four women with hula-hoops all received tickets and fines from an Officer R. Schultz. The women in question are professionals, and were practicing for an upcoming event. Their hula-hoops were on fire, and they had two safety people ready at either end of the practice. They were each given a ticket for “uncontrolled fire, fire-throwing, or walking on fire”...."

san diego is tightening the strangle hold on the beaches. pretty soon it will be a requirement to pay for use at all beaches, just like the east coast.

You know what the fire spinners that got fined were spinning fire in a park area with grass and trees right in the middle of o.b. I mean that's not very smart in the first place because they were putting the whole beach community in danger of getting burnt down. It's also called common sense people..

from my understandinf the fires on the beach was an issue of the city not being able to pay for the pits to be cleaned, than somebody donated money and than they were able to use them agian; wasn't a safty issue.

And a fire park would be sick.Than if you could get skaters to ride through and jump over fire and their skate boards, I would go watch that.

I have had several run-ins with the OB police while fire dancing. . The 1st time I had a run-in I was lit up with 3 or 4 others on the beach and near the water. The ONLY thing that they said to us was to keep going! We had to re-soak our fire toys to give them a show. Another RECENT time I was in the parking lot with glow poi, getting ready to walk to the water and spin…..a police car pulled up and they asked if we were going down to spin fire. We told him yes and he told us to be careful because there were some homeless guys giving people problems on the beach that night. That’s all.

So it’s not really legal to spin fire in public like that with out proper permitting, ECT. However…. The past 4 years the OB police have not only allowed us to spin, but they encouraged it. That’s where my issue lies.

Oh Ok now I understand a little more, yeah that one is going to be tuff than. That's when the judge says that old line "just because that's the way we have always done it, doesn't make it right." I feel you should have been given fair warning, but they don't have to, they could be dicks.

if I ran by the cops doing 90mph and they gave the thumbs up everytime, I would think "hey this cool, I am going to do this more often."; but when than one cop who actaully was enforcing the law gave me a ticket, I would think "WTF didn't this guy get the memo?" But I couldn't blame him too much cause he did ticketed me for doing something illegal.

My point exactly. What if a dog got all excited by a flaming ball and got hurt going after it? Would you blame the dog at a leash free beach or the people breaking the law?

They were practicing on the beach.

"A week later, The Hoop Unit, a separate group from the SD Fire Conclave, were practicing on the beach, led by local hooper and burner Valentina Martin, known as Unity."

Flo class is held in the park, but they dont use fire there.

In the article they are talking about the park..the setting where that interview & report was taken, but the tickets were given on the beach.
